2017 Nietschke Harry GSM

5 Stars

“Ace Wine!” declared one judge. A lovely blend. The nose is all earthy and savoury with a peppery lift. Juicy in the mouth with great integration of earthy plum, pepper and savoury flavours.

Wonderfully ripe and fragrant, the wine shows dark cherry, plum, vanilla, toasted nut and subtle game characters on the nose. The palate is equally satisfying with excellent mid palate weight and fleshy mouthfeel, finishing persistent and silky. Flavoursome and soothingly delicious. At its best: now to 2023.

“Blackberry crumble, elderberry pie, vanilla and baking spices. Full body, some nice juicy tannins and a chewy finish. Drink in 2020. Screw cap.”

2016 Nietschke Shiraz (Jack)

Dense crimson-purple hue; rises above the odd challenge from the vintage and and its (very moderate) price. This is a quintessential Barossa Valley shiraz, with its red, purple and black fruits calmly supported by ripe tannics and enough oak to satisfy the hardest critic. Bargain.

A shiraz that shows chocolate shavings peppered across blackberry pie, dark plums and morello cherries. Full body, lots of blue and black fruit and a grainy, spicy finish. Drink in 2022
